Privacy policy

Monsoon is a product in development. This page explains what we collect on this site, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. In short: we collect what you tell us in the pre-order form and how people use the site, we use it to gauge demand and contact you about Monsoon, and we don't sell it.

What we collect

When you pre-order: your email address, ZIP code (and the state it's in), the option you chose, and any optional answers: your cooler brand, the thermostat you want, and whether you'd like one thermostat for your furnace and cooler. We also note which button opened the form.
When you use the cooler check: your answers about cooler brand, blower motor and wall control, and the result.
When you browse: the pages and sections you view, the buttons you click, the site or campaign link that brought you here, your browser and device type, and an approximate location (city or region) worked out from your IP address. Our analytics tool stores a random ID in your browser so repeat visits count as one person. If the page hits an error, we receive technical details about it.
To stop spam: when you submit the form, a bot check reads signals from your browser to tell people apart from automated scripts.
Server logs: our hosting provider keeps standard request logs, such as IP address, browser and time, for a short period for security and troubleshooting.

We don't collect payment details. Pre-orders are free, and we'll ask for payment separately before anything ships.

How we use it

To measure how much interest there is in Monsoon, and where.
To confirm your cooler and thermostat will work before you pay anything.
To email you about your pre-order, checkout, delivery and the Monsoon launch.
To decide where installation launches first.
To keep the site working, secure and free of spam.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We share it only with:

Service providers that handle it on our behalf: PostHog, which runs our analytics and stores pre-order details; Vercel, which hosts the site and runs the bot check; and, once we start sending email, the service that delivers it.
Your installer, if you choose the installed option: we'll pass your contact details to the licensed installer who schedules your install, once installs begin.
Authorities, if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep pre-order details until Monsoon ships and your order is complete, or until you ask us to delete them. If Monsoon doesn't go ahead, we'll delete them. Browsing analytics are kept only as long as they help us understand demand.

Your choices

Ask what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted by emailing privacy@monsooncontrols.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
Cancel your pre-order at any time by emailing privacy@monsooncontrols.com.
Unsubscribe using the link in any email we send.
Block analytics with your browser's privacy settings or a tracker blocker. The site still works without it.

Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. This site doesn't currently change its behavior in response to it.

Children

This site isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and access to pre-order details is limited to the people building Monsoon. No system is perfectly secure, which is one reason we only ask for what we need.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use pre-order details, we'll email people who have pre-ordered.
